HIGHSHIP is a so called Wing in Ground craft. Wing in Ground Effect (WIG) is the official term adopted by the United Nations International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the United Nations International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for a marine craft using ground effect as a means of lift. A wing-in-ground (WIG) craft is defined as a vessel capable of operating completely above the surface of the water on a dynamic air cushion created by aerodynamic lift due to the ground effect between the vessel and the water's surface.

HIGHSHIP's are an emerging technology that provide surface transportation over water, with characteristics in between air crafts and marine crafts, in terms of speed, cost, maintenance and payload capacity.  Flairing above the water, without water contact, HIGHSHIP's provide an efficient means of transportation, with no sea motion fatigue and no wake, while offering natural stealth.
